Packing, Moving

The Oregon Coast

Pack, pack, pack–yeah, that pretty much describes the past day and a half since I’m moving houses today. What sucks about packing is that it’s only half of the ordeal because there’s still unpacking left to do afterward. I really do wish I was out and about frolicking rather than packing–it’s sunny out.

I won’t have reliable internet access for the next few days since it’s going to take Comcast forever to install internet service at the new house. That said, I probably won’t be posting much unless I hit up a coffee shop or two. Right now I’m milking the internet service at the old house since Qwest never picked up the modem/wireless router.

I’ll hopefully have some photos to share once I get reconnected with the tubes. I’m moving into a house that’s right by the water so that should make for a great photo opp.

Cheers!

Shoes, Photoblog

Shoes

Random question: have you ever thought about how much our shoes define us? And how our personalities sort of morph as we put on a different pair of shoes? I probably pay more attention to these details than most people. It’s either because of my OCD-like personality or because I’ve got a diverse collection of shoes. Think about it though.

By the way, I am transitioning this blog into an actual photoblog. That was my original intention when I created this blog. Bear with me though–I realized that I had lost my camera right after I started this blog. I bought a new one only to find my old one a week later… That’s just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Deschutes1

My Black Butte XXI and the BF's Cascade Ale

Yesterday, Deschutes Brewery celebrated its 21st birthday so they threw a block party to celebrate. The “block party” itself wasn’t super successful. I don’t think they obtained the proper license for it–the Po-Po (Portland Police) had a little chat with Deschutes–and I couldn’t hear the live music even though we were right there. But, who cares, they had $2.10 beer! (Get it? 21 years old, $2.10?) Even happy hour beer doesn’t get that cheap!

To kick off the block party, Deschutes tapped their first keg of Black Butte XXI and were giving away free samples of it. I ordered one for myself and found it to be refreshing, heavy, and strong. You know how I like my drinks. The folks I was with and I joined the crowd on the sidewalk to drink good $2.10 beer  and enjoy the warm sunshine. Just the beer and sunshine made me forget about the fact that it was supposed to be a block party and not care about not getting to hear live music.

This afternoon, the BF and I made our way over to a rather lovely park, Mt. Tabor, for a potluck picnic with other Portland-based Filipinos. It was the first successful meet up of the group; I guess food is really what lures in Filipinos. There was a very nice spread of food ranging from laing to halo-halo. Crazy, huh? The people were great but the very pudgy English pitbull was a little too friendly… Haha.

Later this evening, we may head over to watch a movie at either Mission Theater or Living Room Theaters. I think what it boils down to is whether we want to pay $3 to watch ‘State of Play’ or use our free movie passes for ‘Valentino: The Last Emperor.’ I could go either way; both movies sound great and I like the charm of each theatre.

Laptop Lint

27 June 2009

This weekend is probably going to involve a lot of different types of cleaning. It’s time to start looking after my physical and mental well-being again, sort what I want to keep/throw out/sell/donate for the house move, pack up for the house move, and clean my laptop internally and externally. Right now, I’m fixated on the last task–my laptop.

My laptop still runs amazingly well even though it’s four years old. But it’s due for another thorough cleaning so I’m trying not to neglect that. I need to compress and/or delete old files, transfer all my photos to my hard drive, and what not. By the way, do you know how much lint (is it even lint?) hides underneath your keyboard? Yeah, I didn’t think so. It’s rather gross.

I briefly went to work for a bit of Raiser’s Edge training. Oh, the database that the development field raves about–it’s definitely a lot better than two of the other databases that I’ve used. It’s just unbelievable how Raiser’s Edge is trying to monopolize the market. (They’re buying out other databases.) Regardless, I appreciate the training that I’m receiving since almost every job I apply for in this field requires experience with Raiser’s Edge.

Then I made a delicious sandwich. And an equally delicious chocolate chip cookie that’s I’m warming in the oven as I type this.

My relaxing days of summer are about to come to an end. I begin my internships in a fortnight and, once that gets started, it’s close to full-time work. I’m thinking about finding a part-time job on the side but that may be difficult given my schedule. However, I’ve got some “lucrative” ideas in mind… I can’t disclose any of my ideas right now but I’m hoping they work. I’m going to try and devote a good chunk of my time to it before I start working.

Right now, however, it’s time to enjoy my cookie and carry out my ideas.

And because I’m signing up for Technorati: syqk4xm5bp
